Cheapest Internet
.
Details as of 1st Nov 2010 < This link might be updated periodically later again >
Mobile Internet (GPRS/2G/EDGE) (prepaid) is..
cheapest at:
Airtel &
Aircel
For example, at the above airtel link, u can see below recharge options:
Charge / Usage / Validity Time
24 Rs / 200 MB / 5 days
25 Rs / 25 MB / 30 days
28 Rs / 15 MB / 7 days (Post Free Usage: 30paise / 50KB from main account)
51 Rs / ?? MB / 15 days
98 Rs / 2 G.B / 30 days (better option)
250 Rs / 8 G.B / 90 days (best option)
For example:
> I use max of 200-300MB in general, all Software downloads, Windows updates, anti-virus updates, daily browsing, text & picture downloads (not a lot of video browsing), etc. Also it is almost impossible to use up all the 2 GB in 30 days, for the speed is low in day time
> In 98 Rs plan, u don't really need to care download-usage
> In 250 Rs plan, u don't really need to care download-usage/validity time for next recharge
> Don't recharge too less MB, because you may run out of it, and u will be charged very high (??? but yes, like bill could come to 600 Rs :) as i have seen for one of my friend)
TATA docomo has not so good plans
BSNL site has no 2G plans at all (just 1p / 10kb) (site is not updated since ages, shows even cheaper however its wrong, called customer care and checked
Tataindicom is no cheap (10p / 10kb)
Browsing:
You can browse Internet thru:
> Mobile
OR
> Computer/PC/Laptop - by connecting your mobile, in a USB port (it's a small hardware/small opening on the PC/Laptop, its almost always present) of your computer (sure about Airtel & Aircel connections)
Comes at a cost:
This cheapest Internet comes at another cost, because it is normally slow (2kbps/3kbps), for something to download it could take more time than on connections which are little faster (say, 8Kbps), so time taken for some download take more time, hence more electricity is used.
Best usage:
> if you use Internet occasionally, so don't want to spend a lot money
> occasionally, to download a little bigger downloads, put it in late night (after 12pm), or, early morning (before 7am), even your Windows updates, Anti-virus updates, etc. gets done faster
> Use Opera browser for browsing Internet, this basically speeds up the browsing with its "Opera Turbo" technology, for example, when downloading an image of 100KB, it resizes the image to a low-quality image, then downloads to your system, for example, just 20KB may be downloaded, and then shows it to you, mostly your eye may not recognize the difference
> If you anyway spend a lot of time on computer (without any video chatting), then what you loose, just connect to Internet, and do you work, play games, etc. The Windows downloads, anti-virus updates, they utilize your Internet connection in idle time, else start a download, for example, Opera's download manager. When you are done, pause/stop the download, shutdown your computer. Next time you start computer, you can resume, previously paused/stopped downloads. Or, just connect Internet, and browse in Opera anytime. For this unlimited Internet is good, for example, Airtel's 98 Rs (1 month) or 250 Rs (3 month) plan.
Off topic:
If you need high speed (in Mobile), you shud consider 3G mobile Internet, where u can video mobile call someone. BSNL has it, its coming in Tata DoCoMo.
